The Ministry of Health attributes the case involving the “loss of a body” from the Nicosia morgue to an error in the labeling of the body. As it turned out, the body had never left the morgue.
In today’s edition of the newspaper “Fileleftheros,” it was reported that a funeral home that went to collect the remains of a British citizen was unable to locate them, and the case was referred to the police for investigation.
The deceased had passed away about a month ago in Paphos and had been taken to Nicosia General Hospital for an autopsy; his remains remained there until arrangements were made for their transfer abroadabroad.
Ultimately, the body was located at the Nicosia morgue, where it had been mislabeled.
The Ministry of Health’s Press Spokesperson, Dimitris Konstantinou, told CNA that “this mistake was made due to an oversight. It should not have happened; it caused a great deal of unnecessary turmoil.”
When asked about the problems facing the Forensic Medical Service, given that there is only one morgue in Nicosia, Mr. Konstantinou said that transportation issues and the Forensic Medical Service “are matters of concern to the Ministry of Health.”
