The police advise drivers to be especially careful, drive at low speeds, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and keep their headlights on.

  • Due to the river overflowing in the area, the Avakas Gorge has become inaccessible. The public, and drivers in particular, are urged to avoid traveling to or approaching the area until further notice, for safety reasons.
  • Due to dense fog in the Paleochori area, visibility on the road network is very limited.
  • Heavy rainfall is occurring in the Pissouri area, resulting in limited visibility on the road network.
  • Due to the river overflowing, the Pegeia-Lara road has become impassable. Drivers are urged to avoid this road and to exercise extreme caution.
  • Due to a fallen tree on the roadway, the Orkondas–Pedoulas road has been closed.
  • In the areas of Erimi, Episkopi, and Sotira in the Limassol district, as well as in Kokkinotrimithia in the Nicosia district, heavy rainfall is occurring, resulting in limited visibility on the road network.

The severe weather conditions affecting Paphos also caused disruptions to air travel, with a flight bound for the city’s airport being diverted to Larnaca.

The adverse weather conditions also affected air travel, as an aircraft that took off from Glasgow Airport, bound for Paphos Airport, was forced to change course and ultimately landed at Larnaca Airport.

The Fire Department is also on high alert to respond to flooding and other emergencies that may arise from the severe weather.

Fire Department Press Officer Koulla Mesaritou stated on the Alpha News program that all District Directorates are on high alert with fully staffed crews, and personnel have been ordered to remain on standby. At the same time, there is close communication with Civil Defense, the Meteorological Service, and local authorities to ensure coordination and cooperation.

Ms. Mesaritou explained that in the event of a flood of calls, calls are triaged based on the level of risk.
