The 19-year-old who escaped from the Lakatamia police station remains at large for a second 24-hour period.
The police have launched a manhunt to locate the fugitive, and on Saturday afternoon they arrested a 45-year-old relative of his. He is the uncle of the 19-year-old fugitive, who appears to have contacted him immediately after the escape; authorities are investigating whether he helped him flee the area.
After punching the window bars in his cell, the 19-year-old managed to break through them and then escape from the Lakatamia police detention center, and it is believed that he crossed into and is hiding in the Buffer Zone.
The young man’s absence from the Syrian detention center was noticed around 7:45 p.m. on Friday during the headcount.

On Saturday morning, an emergency meeting was held at Police Headquarters, where the events and actions taken from the moment the escape was discovered were discussed, with the criminal aspect of the case being investigated by a team from the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department.
The 19-year-old was transferred to the Lakatamia detention center following a decision by the Limassol District Court to remand him in custody pending trial.

The police investigation is in full swing, and the suspect’s details and photograph have been released to the public to assist the police in their efforts to locate him.
