There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order, and enhancing the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive police operations, 17 individuals were arrested for various offenses, including illegal residence in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, carrying a knife, illegal possession of burglary tools, illegal possession of property, public intoxication, causing a disturbance, illegal possession of narcotics, illegal possession of a weapon, assault on a police officer, etc.
As part of these operations, 643 drivers and 184 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 37 property inspections were conducted to address illegal activities, resulting in four complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 320 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 11 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation.
Among the citations issued, 133 were for drivers exceeding the speed limit, and as part of police investigations, 9 vehicles were impounded.
A total of 89 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in four citations, and two cases of driving under the influence of drugs were identified following preliminary drug tests.
Law enforcement operations aimed at crime prevention and suppression continue daily, with an increased/reinforced police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing citizens’ sense of security, protecting citizens, and ensuring public order.
