We continue the discussion, listening carefully to the views and suggestions of those involved, but also with a sense of responsibility toward the need to move forward with solutions that stand the test of time and serve public schools,” states the Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth, Athina Michailidou, regarding her meeting with OELMEK in a post she shared on the “X” platform on Thursday evening.
Ms. Michaelidou also referred to a meeting she had with social workers who are assigned to schools as part of a pilot program, noting that “this is yet another meaningful initiative within the framework of the Government’s policy for a school that sees, hears, and supports every child.”
In her post, the Minister of Education states that she had two important meetings with OELMEK and with the social workers, as part of preparations for the new school year, as well as their broader effort to create a modern school system.
Regarding her meeting with OELMEK, the Minister noted that they discussed the issue of the teacher appointment system with the organization.
“We listened to concerns, accepted suggestions, and provided clarifications. We are continuing the discussion, listening carefully to the positions and suggestions of those involved, while also acting responsibly in light of the need to move forward with solutions that stand the test of time and serve public schools,” she notes.
Regarding the meeting with social workers, who—starting this school year—are being integrated into our schools for the first time as part of a pilot program, the Minister states that this is yet another meaningful initiative within the framework of the Government’s policy for a school that sees, listens to, and supports every child.
“We are strengthening the connection between school, child, and family; we are investing more in prevention and early intervention, and we are providing our schools with additional tools to more effectively address school violence, delinquency, and other contemporary challenges. “As a government, we continue to work and invest in a better school system for our children, one that is more supportive of our teachers and closer to families and society,” he concludes.
