The weather is changing again: When will the rain and thunderstorms arrive?

Temperatures are plummeting
ALPHANEWSLIVE

A noticeable drop in temperature, localized rain, and—based on initial forecasts—isolated thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, Meteorologist Matthaios Papadakis told CNA on Tuesday. As he noted, the weather will initially be partly cloudy and will gradually become mostly cloudy.

Due to the air mass affecting the region, as well as the increased cloud cover, the temperature is expected to drop significantly and remain below normal seasonal levels. Mr. Papadakis clarified that the change will be temporary and limited to Saturday.

He explained that a trough in the upper atmosphere will cause the unstable conditions, noting that this development is occurring somewhat earlier than usual. Similar weather conditions, he added, are typically observed in mid-September.

For today, Tuesday, the seasonal low-pressure system continues to affect the region, with the weather expected to be mostly clear and some increased cloud cover in the mountains, which may bring isolated showers.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 39 degrees inland, 32 degrees on the western and southwestern coasts, 35 degrees along the rest of the coast, and 30 degrees in the higher mountainous areas. These temperatures are higher than the average seasonal values, which in the interior currently range from 36 to 37 degrees.

On Wednesday, the weather will be mostly clear, with increased cloud cover in the afternoon, particularly in the mountains. Temperatures will remain roughly the same, reaching around 39 degrees inland, 35 degrees on the southern and eastern coasts, 32 degrees along the western and northern coasts, and 30 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

On Thursday and Friday, the weather will be mostly sunny, with occasional increased cloud cover, while isolated showers may occur in the mountains after noon. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly by Friday but will remain above average.

When asked about the El Niño phenomenon, Mr. Papadakis noted that we will have to wait and see how the phenomenon develops and how it will affect the fall and winter.

He noted that the drought observed in Europe over the past two to three years, particularly during the summer months, cannot be directly linked to El Niño. He added that more extreme weather events may occur, clarifying, however, that we must wait to see how conditions develop.

As he said, Europe is likely to be more affected, while Cyprus is expected to have a year similar to previous ones. “We hope, however, to have rain, because we need it,” he concluded.
