The construction of a new Police Headquarters and a new Fire Station in Larnaca, with the goal of beginning construction in 2027, as decided by the Cabinet on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Presidential Palace, Minister of Justice and Public Order Costas Fytiris said that state-owned land will be used for the two new facilities. He also noted that the Nicosia and Limassol Police Directorates will follow suit.

As he stated, “The Cabinet today approved the Ministry of Justice’s plan, which was drawn up in accordance with the President of the Republic’s instructions to upgrade the facilities of the Police and the Fire Department.”

More specifically, state-owned land was allocated for the construction of the new Larnaca Police Headquarters and the new Larnaca Fire Station.

He added that these services have been housed in their current facilities since 1950, so “it is now necessary to build new facilities that meet modern requirements, taking into account the development of the Larnaca district.”

He noted that this program will also continue in Nicosia, with regard to the Nicosia Police Directorate, as well as for the Limassol Police Directorate.

“This is a program that is essential so that the Police and Fire Department can now meet modern demands,” he said.

Near the Courthouse and the Rizoelia Interchange

As he explained, the new Larnaca Police Headquarters will be built on state-owned land near the courthouse, in order to facilitate the transport of detainees to the courts and to reduce the administrative costs and time required to transport them from detention facilities.

He also said that the new Larnaca Fire Station facilities are located near the Rizolia interchange, “so that it can now cover the entire Larnaca district.”

He added that when the Larnaca Police Department and the Fire Station were established in 1950, they covered an area near the city center. “Today, Larnaca is in a massive growth area, so the location was chosen to ensure a rapid response to any point in the Larnaca district. This program will continue, as I said, for both Nicosia and Limassol,” he said.

Regarding the timeline for implementing the decision, the Minister said that the goal is to begin construction by 2027. “There is a process. The site has now been allocated. The goal is for construction to begin by 2027,” he said.
