Greek F-16 fighter jets, as well as a French C-130 transport aircraft, were spotted on Thursday over the area of Kiti-Pervolia area, causing concern among residents, according to statements made to CNA by Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas.
CYPA contacted the Minister of Defense following reports from citizens about fighter jets and a transport aircraft flying over the area.
As Mr. Palmas stated, these are Greek F-16s, which, in accordance with the relevant protocol, are conducting flights originating from the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base in Paphos.
According to the Minister, the fighter jets are conducting low-altitude flights along the Paphos–Troodos–Larnaca route as part of the activities provided for in their protocols.
Regarding the transport aircraft, Mr. Palmas said that, as part of routine operations, a French C-130 departed from Larnaca Airport.
When asked more generally whether violations of the Republic of Cyprus’s airspace are recorded, the Minister of Defense noted that it is well known that violations by Turkish F-16s occur frequently.
He further stated that, whenever such violations are recorded, the Republic of Cyprus takes the appropriate diplomatic steps through the relevant government agencies.
