Today’s hearing before the Paphos Permanent Criminal Court in the case of the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Faidon Faidonos, due to the illness of a prosecution witness, as reported to the Court.
The Criminal Court set the next hearing for October 6, at 9:00 a.m., at which time the trial is expected to continue with the testimony of prosecution witnesses, followed by their cross-examination by the defendant’s defense attorneys, Christos Pourgouridis and Nontas Korakidis.
So far, the complainant has not testified; according to reports, she is expected to testify last and to give her testimony via videoconference.
Mr. Faidonos faces a total of five charges, including rape, indecent assault against a woman, indecent assault against a woman involving another act, assault resulting in actual bodily injury, and administering a drug or other substance capable of sedating or neutralizing a person’s ability to resist.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to all five charges.
With the conclusion of the prosecution’s presentation of evidence, the Criminal Court is expected to rule on whether a prima facie case has been established, so that the proceedings may proceed to the next stage.
It should be noted that the proceedings are being held behind closed doors, following a request by the Prosecution, which was granted by the Paphos Criminal Court.
