After the uproar caused by her statements that she should retain her police escort as a former First Lady in order to attend embassy receptions, without having to drive around looking for a parking spot, Androulla Vassiliou “backtracked.”
As she stated in a post, she instructed the police driver assigned to her following the death of her husband, former President of the Republic George Vasiliou, to report to Police Headquarters on Monday to be assigned new duties.
She announced her decision in a post on Platform X, one day after her public statements regarding the termination of this arrangement.
“Because I sincerely want to help the Ministry of Justice implement its decisions and save public funds, I have instructed the driver/police officer who has been assigned to me since my husband’s death to report to Police Headquarters next Monday to receive instructions regarding his new assignment,” she stated.
