The Ecologists' Movement – Citizens’ Coalition expresses, in a statement, deep concern over repeated incidents of cats being shot in a residential area of Lakatamia, arguing that, despite repeated complaints to the relevant authorities, there has been no substantive investigation of the matter to date.
According to the Movement, three cats in the same yard have been shot in recent years; two died, while the third survived after undergoing surgery. The Ecologists state that these incidents constitute both “acts of animal abuse and a serious threat to public safety,” since, as they argue, a firearm or hunting rifle was used in a residential area.
They are calling on the relevant authorities to conduct a full investigation into the allegations, to activate the Animal Police and to take preventive and surveillance measures, while also calling for the strict enforcement of relevant legislation. The statement adds that the effective investigation of such cases is necessary both for the protection of animals and for the safety of residents.
