A meeting was held at Police Headquarters on Saturday, chaired by the Force Commander, regarding the escape of a 19-year-old defendant from lawful custody, which occurred on Friday night at the Lakatamia Police Detention Center.
According to a police statement, the meeting reviewed the facts of the case as they stand so far. The Nicosia Police Director briefed the leadership on the events and the actions taken from the moment the escape was discovered.
As noted, the criminal aspect of the case is being investigated by a team from the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department, while efforts to locate and arrest the fugitive continue.
It should be recalled that the detainee who managed to escape yesterday, Friday, while in custody at the Lakatamia police detention center remains at large. According to reports, the police have recalled personnel in an effort to locate him, and it is believed that he has crossed into and is hiding in the Dead Zone.
Police investigations are currently in full swing, and his details and photograph have been released to the public to assist the police in their efforts to locate him. He is a 19-year-old man from Syria.

The 19-year-old had been transferred to the Lakatamia detention center following a decision by the Limassol District Court to remand him in custody pending trial. Around 7:45 p.m. last night, it was discovered that he was not in his cell. The circumstances of the escape are under investigation.
