A call for greater caution, responsibility, and strict compliance with the law, issued by the Cyprus Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Federation on the occasion of the start of the summer hunting season on Sunday, August 23.
In a press release, the Federation emphasizes that safety must be everyone’s top priority and urges hunters “to be absolutely certain of their target and of what lies behind and around it before every shot, to maintain the required safety distances, and to show respect for fellow hunters, landowners, private property, and everyone else out in the countryside”.
Partridges and quail starting September 2
Please note that during the first two hunting days of the summer season, on August 23 and 30, 2026, hunting both turtle doves and quail is prohibited; it should be noted that the hunting season for these two species begins on September 2, 2026, while hunting for the palm dove begins on August 23, 2026.
“For this reason, hunters are urged to exercise particular care in correctly identifying their game before each shot,” the notice states.
Mandatory Harvest Recording
Regarding the recording of game taken via the Artemis Cy app, it is noted that this is mandatory for all game species and during all hunting seasons; specifically for the turtle dove, quail, and the palm dove, records must be entered immediately and separately for each bird harvested.
The Federation points out that harvest data are an important tool for the rational management of game species and the documentation of hunting activity, emphasizing the importance of accurate and timelyrecording.
Caution Regarding High Temperatures and Fire Risk
It is also emphasized that, due to the high temperatures prevailing during this period, hunters are urged to be properly prepared, to carry sufficient amounts of water, to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and not to overestimate their physical capabilities.
Special care should also be taken to ensure the protection, rest, and adequate hydration of hunting dogs. “At the same time, due to the increased risk of causing a fire, everyone must exercise the utmost caution. Please be reminded that lighting fires in unauthorized areas is prohibited.”
Hunting License Renewal
The Cyprus Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Federation also urges hunters, during the process of renewing their hunting licenses, to choose the hunting club of their choice.
As noted, the selection of a hunting club entails no additional financial cost to the hunter and helps strengthen organized hunting groups and the work they do at the local level for hunting, wildlife, and the Cypriot countryside.
The Federation urges hunters to review the permitted hunting areas before each outing and to consult the relevant maps via the Artemis Cy app, emphasizing that safety, responsibility, compliance with the law, and respect for nature and fellow human beings are the responsibility of us all.
