Cyprus stands in solidarity with earthquake-stricken Venezuela, collecting humanitarian aid to be sent to the region as soon as possible. According to UNICEF, 680 children need urgent assistance as they lack water, food, and shelter.

The Alpha News program and reporter Olga Konstantinou visited the collection point in Aradippou and spoke with the collection coordinator, Koralia Noemi Gonzales Christou, and Panagiotis Nikolaidis, owner of the SolarSky warehouse.

According to Ms. Gonzales, the ship departs on July 10 from the port of Piraeus for Venezuela, and the shipment from Cyprus must arrive by then; she is requesting assistance with transportation to the port.

There has been a tremendous public response to the product drive, with Ms. Gonzalez noting that the effort was embraced from the very moment it was announced.

She also notes that any help is welcome in sorting the supplies and arranging their shipment to Greece and from there to Venezuela.

Ms. González is originally from Venezuela and is looking for ways to contribute. “I really wanted to find a way to help my country, and I immediately found a response; they guided me right away, and we’re here, and we’ll stay here until we can finish our work,” he says.

Mr. Nikolaidis offered his space for collecting aid with great joy and compassion, as he explains.

Regarding the hours during which people can stop by to contribute, he states that someone is there daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and a fixed time slot from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM has been added specifically for this purpose; however, anyone can contact the company to make arrangements.

Ms. Gonzalez thanked the people who have stood by them and responded immediately.

“Don’t think this is a small thing. Whatever is small to you is very big to us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
