Authorities have arrested a relative of the 19-year-old fugitive from Syros.
According to the police, as part of the investigation into the 19-year-old’s escape, the police arrested a 45-year-old man today pursuant to a court warrant. The 45-year-old was arrested on charges of aiding and abetting after the commission of a crime.
The 19-year-old defendant who escaped from the police detention center in Lakatamia on Friday night remains at large. According to reports, the police have recalled personnel to locate him, and it is believed that he has crossed into and is hiding in the Dead Zone.
The police investigation is in full swing, and his personal details and photograph have been released to the public to assist the police in their efforts to locate him.

The 19-year-old had been transferred to the Lakatamia detention center following a decision by the Limassol District Court to remand him in custody pending trial. At around 7:45 p.m. last night, it was discovered that he was not in his cell. The circumstances of the escape are under investigation.
Earlier on Saturday, a meeting was held at Police Headquarters, led by the Police Force, to discuss the escape and review the facts of the case thus far. The Nicosia Police Director briefed the leadership on the events and the actions taken from the moment the escape was discovered.
As noted, the criminal aspect of the case is being investigated by a team from the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department, while efforts to locate and arrest the fugitive continue.
