Shortly before 6 a.m., the 33-year-old left work. As he was heading toward his home, he was shot. The assailant shot him “mercilessly,” with the intent to kill him.

“According to the evidence so far, while the 33-year-old was driving around 5:40 a.m., his vehicle was hit by several gunshots.” ^{Andreas Konstantinou, Chief of the Traffic Police}

The site of the ambush is right behind me. The perpetrator was hiding in a field; when the victim’s vehicle passed by, he opened fire, riddling the vehicle with bullets.

The 33-year-old was not injured by the gunfire, but his vehicle sustained damage.

A well-planned operation

The plan to carry out the client’s orders was well-organized. The individuals carrying out the crime knew that he was alone in the vehicle, were aware of the route he was taking, and were waiting for him at that spot. Immediately after the shots were fired, the perpetrator got into a vehicle and, together with his accomplice, disappeared.

A few minutes later, they set the car on fire in a remote area in Avgorou. From there, they escape by another means of transportation.

“The case is in its early stages. Investigations are underway both at the scene of the attempted murder and regarding the arson. Evidence is being collected, and all necessary investigations will be conducted,” said ^{Andreas Konstantinou, Chief of the Criminal Investigation Division.}

Investigations revealed that bullets had also struck a neighboring house, while shell casings were found in a field.

The vehicle was carrying fake license plates and had been stolen from Larnaca. The Criminal Investigation Division’s investigative team has mapped out the perpetrators’ route. Investigations are also focusing on the professional activities of the 33-year-old, who is active in the area.

The victim has never been known to the police and is the brother of a man convicted in the quadruple murder case in Ayia Napa, from whom a statement will be taken.
