Due to the situation, the Cabinet decided today to provide financial assistance on a discretionary basis to affected owners of homes, commercial properties, and vehicles not covered by private insurance. Following the meeting, Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou announced that the assessment of damages is ongoing and will be completed next Monday, at which point the government will have all the necessary data at its disposal. According to Mr. Ioannou, the Cabinet has established the specific criteria for granting financial assistance:

  1. Privately owned primary residences without insurance: financial assistance equal to 80% of the estimated damage, with a maximum amount of €20,000 for damage to the building, and financial assistance equal to the estimated damage, up to a maximum of €15,000 for damage to equipment.
  2. Uninsured photovoltaic systems on privately owned primary residences: financial assistance equal to 80% of the estimated damage, with a maximum amount of €7,000.
  3. Uninsured commercial properties: financial assistance equal to 70% of the appraised value, up to a maximum of €30,000 for damage to the building and financial assistance equal to the estimated damage, up to a maximum of €10,000 for damage to equipment.
  4. Uninsured vehicles: financial assistance equal to 75% of the estimated damage, up to a maximum of €5,000 per vehicle, provided that it has a valid registration, third-party liability insurance, and a valid vehicle inspection certificate, or is legally immobilized.

Affected residences, commercial properties, and insured vehicles will receive ex gratia financial assistance equal to the estimated damage, up to the insurance deductible. It is understood that this financial assistance is granted only to structures that have a building permit from the competent authority and to permanent, licensed structures.

As Mr. Ioannou stated, in the coming hours, all the details of the Cabinet’s decision will be posted on the Ministry of the Interior’s website, along with the application process for those affected by the severe weather.
