The bad weather has started to take its toll. Heavy rain and hail have been falling over the past hour in the free part of Famagusta, while some areas are experiencing power outages.
As seen in videos sent to us by readers, the skies have opened up, and the weather is getting worse as time goes on.

We would like to remind you that the Department of Meteorology issued a 9-hour orange warning yesterday, as a low-pressure system from the north is expected to affect us, plunging the country into severe weather conditions for one day.
The conditions will be particularly severe in the mountains, inland areas, the east, and the north. The warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
More specifically, a weather system from the north is beginning to affect the region. Conditions are expected to be intense or even prolonged in some areas.
Today, the weather will initially be mostly clear with some local cloud cover; however, it will gradually worsen and become mostly cloudy with rain and local thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms are expected to be severe and will be accompanied by hail and gusty winds. Winds will initially blow mainly from the northeast to southeast, light to moderate, 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale, and locally up to strong, 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale; however, they will gradually shift to generally northwesterly to northeasterly, generally moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and temporarily in the north up to very strong at 6 Beaufort. During a storm, however, the winds will shift and temporarily intensify with stronger gusts. The sea will be generally slightly rough to rough. Temperatures will reach around 30 degrees inland and along the rest of the coast, and around 18 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.
Tonight, the weather will gradually become mostly clear with locally increased cloud cover, while isolated showers are likely along the eastern and northern coasts. Winds will generally be northwesterly to northeasterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and initially moderate, 4 Beaufort, in the west and north. The sea in the west and north will remain slightly rough to rough, while in the south and east it will gradually become slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to around 21 degrees inland, around 23 along the coast, and around 14 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.
On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, the weather in most parts of the island will be mostly clear with temporarily increased cloud cover; however, clouds developing after noon are expected to bring isolated showers, and isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, mainly in the mountains, in areas south of the Troodos Mountains, and possibly in the southeast as well.
Temperatures will rise on Sunday but will remain below seasonal averages, at least in the mountains and inland. By Tuesday, however, temperatures are expected to generally return to near seasonal averages.
