In October, the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance will conduct targeted inspections throughout Cyprus in the construction industry, as part of efforts to combat undeclared work and ensure compliance with core labor laws.
In a statement from the Service, it is stated that the purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness among all those involved in these economic activities regarding the consequences of undeclared work and non-compliance with the provisions of the relevant legislation. At the same time, inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance with basic employment conditions (wages, working hours, weekly days off, etc.).
It should be noted that, in accordance with the provisions of the relevant legislation, if an undeclared worker is identified by the Social Security Fund, an administrative fine of €1,000 is imposed for each employee for the month in which the violation was detected, increasing by €500 for 6 months.
In the event of a repeat violation involving undeclared employment for a second time within two years, the amount of €1,000 increases to €2,000, and after the third time and thereafter, to €3,000 for the current month, unless the employer can prove that the period of the violation was shorter. If it is proven that the period of non-compliance was longer, the fine is multiplied by the actual number of months.
Please note that the Cyprus-wide hotline 77778577 accepts anonymous or named complaints andinformation regarding undeclared work or violations of employment terms.
