Severe weather conditions have been reported in the mountainous regions over the past 24 hours. We may be in the heart of summer, but the weather in the mountainous and semi-mountainous regions was distinctly autumnal.

For more than two hours, it rained heavily in the higher mountain areas, an unusual occurrence for this time of year.

Speaking on the Alpha News program, Agros community leader Antonis Tsolakis noted that the prevailing weather conditions were unusual both in terms of intensity as in their duration for the summer season.

“It was from 12:to 2:30—two and a half hours of torrential summer rain. We haven’t seen this much rain in a long time; you couldn’t take a step, and the windshield wipers couldn’t keep up,” ^{Antonis Tsolakis, Community Leader of Agros}

The heavy rainfall also caused some minor problems.

New yellow warning

The Meteorological Service issued a new yellow warning this morning, effective from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., for local severe thunderstorms in mountainous areas and, in some places, inland areas.

The rainfall is particularly beneficial for Agros, as the water flows into the Kouris Dam.

Meteorologists are closely monitoring weather developments and advise the public to stay informed through official announcements, as the weather phenomena are expected to be localized but at times intense. Temperatures are expected to rise toward the end of the week.
