Police arrested four individuals in the Nicosia District overnight, for driving under the influence of alcohol and refusing to provide a breath sample during a final alcohol test.
Specifically, shortly before midnight, a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old man was pulled over for inspection on Strovolos Avenue in Nicosia. The 40-year-old underwent a preliminary breathalyzer test, which showed a reading of 77 μg% compared to the legal limit of 9 μg%, and subsequently refused to undergo a final breathalyzer test, leading to his arrest for a flagrant offense.
In another case, a 51-year-old man was pulled over for a check shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Themistoklis Dervis Street in Nicosia, and upon undergoing a breathalyzer test, he tested positive with a reading of 85 μg% instead of 22 μg%, resulting in his arrest for a flagrant offense.
In another case, a 39-year-old man was pulled over for a check around 3:10 a.m. on Strovolos Avenue in Nicosia. He was then subjected to a preliminary breathalyzer test, which showed a reading of 64 μg% instead of 22 μg%, and subsequently refused to undergo a final breathalyzer test, resulting in his arrest for a flagrant offense.
Finally, at around 4:20 a.m., a 30-year-old man was spotted driving in the wrong lane on Kimonos Street in Nicosia and was pulled over. Upon checking the vehicle’s registration, it was determined that he was driving without a valid vehicle registration or certificate of roadworthiness. Subsequently, the 30-year-old underwent a final breathalyzer test, which showed a positive result of 90 μg% instead of the legal limit of 9 μg%.
All four arrested individuals are expected to appear tomorrow before the Nicosia District Court, for the immediate filing of charges against them in connection with the traffic offenses they committed.
