In connection with an ongoing investigation into an assault resulting in serious bodily injury, which was committed yesterday against a 47-year-old man in the Famagusta district—and for which three individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody—a fourth person was arrested today shortly before 2:00 p.m. at Larnaca Airport, along with a fourth individual.
The suspect is an 18-year-old who, after being arrested, was taken into custody and is expected to appear tomorrow before the Famagusta District Court, for the purpose of issuing a detention order against him.
The other three suspects, all 18 years old, were brought before the court, which ordered their detention for eight days.
It is recalled that the 47-year-old man was found injured on a street in Ayia Napa around 6:00 a.m. by police officers who rushed to the scene following a tip.
He was then transported to the Famagusta General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage and a skull base fracture. Due to the severity of his condition, he was intubated and transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. His condition is considered by his attending physicians to be serious but stable.
Speaking on the program “Alpha News,” Police Spokesperson Byron Vyronos clarified regarding the motives behind the incident that there is no evidence to suggest a hate crime.
