The Limassol CID arrested a 19-year-old last night, to facilitate the investigation into an incident that occurred on July 9 in Limassol and resulted in a police officer sustaining minor injuries.
Specifically, at 4:30 p.m. on July 9, a member of Team Z of the Limassol Traffic Police signaled the driver of a double-cab pickup truck—which was not displaying license plates—to pull over for a check.
The driver of the vehicle accelerated, driving recklessly and dangerously, ran a red light, and committed various traffic violations.
The driver of the car in question stopped at some point on a road in Limassol and, while reversing, he collided with the police motorcycle that was following him, resulting in the injury of the police officer.
The police officer used his service pistol and fired three shots at the tires of the car in question, but it fled in an unknown direction.
The police officer was transported to Limassol General Hospital, where he received first aid and was subsequently discharged.
During the investigation of the case and following the collection and evaluation of evidence, testimony was obtained regarding a 19-year-old, against whom an arrest warrant was issued.
Police officers located the 19-year-old in question around 11:15 last night, the 19-year-old in question near a double-cab pickup truck, which was parked in front of his home in Limassol. Upon seeing the police officers, he attempted to flee but was stopped and arrested pursuant to the outstanding arrest warrant against him.
The suspect was taken to the Limassol Traffic Police offices, where the 19-year-old was placed in custody. He is being investigated for the offenses of reckless and dangerous driving, failure to stop at a signal from a uniformed police officer, acts intended to cause serious bodily harm, and others.
The double-cab vehicle was seized and impounded as evidence for the purposes of the police investigation.
The Limassol Traffic Police is continuing its investigation.
