Designated as a Christian Cemetery, it is the regional public kindergarten in Tsada.
The incident was confirmed by the Education Committee, which conducted a tour of schools in the Paphos District, along with Tsada’s community leader and School Board President Marios Ioannou, who stated on the Alpha Kalimera program that “For the past two years, I have been fighting for a relocation, especially of the kindergarten.”
As he noted, the land was purchased 40 years ago by the local authority, and about 35 years ago the kindergarten was built “in the blink of an eye” on land that belongs to the cemetery.
Land was purchased for a cemetery, and 35 years ago, space was allocated to build a facility to house the kindergarten, he added.
However, no change has been made to the land’s designated use, with Mr. Ioannou noting that in the title deed, the parcel is listed as the Christian Cemetery of the village of Tsada.
Mr. Ioannou addressed the President of the Republic, who had instructed Deputy Minister to the President Irini Piki to investigate the matter. As he noted, the government approached the technical services of the Paphos district, but those services had given a negative response, citing the low number of children attending the school.
It should be noted that 22 children attend the kindergarten, which serves six communities.
