A Greek Cypriot traveler who arrived at Larnaca Airport from Dubai was caught in a sting operation by Customs Department officials.
The passenger was selected for a luggage inspection after choosing the green “Nothing to Declare” lane upon exiting the customs area.
During the inspection, 31 pieces of jewelry were found in his luggage (1 set of earrings, 1 pendant, 10 rings, 17 bracelets, 2 necklaces), 13 diamonds, and 32 jewelry certificates, with a total value of €41,163, which he failed to declare to Customs for the payment of the corresponding duties and taxes.
The goods were seized, and on October 9, 2026, a retroactive assessment of customs and other duties was issued, pursuant to which the party involved was required to pay €10,000 for the applicable duties and taxes, plus a surcharge and interest, while his request for an out-of-court settlement of the offense was accepted upon payment of an additional amount of €5,000.
