Dangerous races and stunts on scooters by minors on Cypriot roads—a scourge for the police

"they 'advertise' their achievements on social media (VIDEO)"

Racing, reckless driving, stunts with wheelies, and all that… late at night, with modified scooters ridden by minors. In fact, they don’t hesitate to “show off” these acts on social media.

Marina Christodoulidou, the press officer for the Police Headquarters, spoke about the issue on the “Alpha Kalimera” show.

As she emphasized, some of the videos circulating online are already being reviewed by the police in order to locate and identify the individuals appearing in them.

In addition, she added, the police are identifying specific areas to conduct more intensive checks.

Ms. Christodoulidou also highlighted the responsibility of parents in relation to this issue, since they appear to allow their children to ride such devices or fail to take adequate measures to secure them, which is also illegal.

The police, she added, cannot seize a personal mobility device except to verify the legality of its possession—that is, to determine who owns it. Otherwise, the police file a complaint.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 7,600 out-of-court complaints have been issued for violations of laws regarding these devices, 2,500 complaints for use outside permitted areas, 2,000 citations for failure to wear a helmet, and 1,500 citations for failure to wear reflective vests, while the police launched an enforcement campaign yesterday that will conclude on Sunday.
