As stated in the Ministry’s announcement regarding Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris’s visit to the Central Prison, Mr. Fytiris “also requested a meeting with the leaders of the prison guards’ union organizations. He met with the President and Secretary of the Prison Guards Branch of the Pancyprian Union of Public Servants (PASYDY), with whom he discussed issues of concern to the staff and listened to their views and suggestions.

Meanwhile, as the Ministry adds, “as for the Sectoral Council of the ‘Isotita’ union, the meeting could not take place, since both the President and the Secretary were absent.”

In a statement, “Isotita” refutes the Minister’s claim, stating that “the reality is completely different: Our Branch Secretary, like several other Branch officials, was not
absent. They were at work as usual, at their posts, performing their
official duties.”

They also emphasize that “the only reason they were not at the meeting is very simple: they were never invited. Telling the truth never hurts. On the contrary, spreading inaccuracies only serves to do our colleagues an injustice.”
