A fire that broke out shortly after noon outside the Sfalangiotissa Cemetery in Limassol appears to be under control; it had put firefighting forces on alert.
As Fire Department spokesperson Andreas Kettis noted in a post on Platform X, the fire was raging through dry grass, wild vegetation, and carob trees.
“Three fire trucks are on the scene. As a precaution, two fully loaded firefighting aircraft that were called in while on patrol dropped water,” noted Mr. Kettis. Two organized volunteer groups, Support-Cy and ATLAS, also responded to assist with firefighting efforts.
“The fire has been contained and appears to be manageable. Its causes will be investigated once it has been completely extinguished,” Mr. Kettis stated in his post.
