An advertising campaign for a web app—not a scam—is behind a flyer that was distributed in neighborhoods of Limassol and has caused concern among dozens of residents.

The flooding social media in recent hours have even prompted police authorities to investigate the matter, leading them to conclude that the public’s justified suspicion of a scam is mistaken.

As part of a promotional campaign, the company that manages this web app released a brochure that, among other things, bears the inscription “Cyprus Ministry of Apps.” The brochure invites citizens to scan a QR code and log in to the app, which is designed to allow people living in the same neighborhood to report common problems or issues that concern them.

At the bottom of the brochure, in small print, it states that this is not a scam.

Therefore, the government-style promotional flyers and references to the “Ministry of Apps” are nothing more than an advertisement for a recently launched mobile app. The brochures are clearly marked as advertisements, and the overall message is intentionally “over-the-top,” with humorous phrasing.

The campaign’s creators clearly state that this format was deliberately designed to grab attention and that the advertisement was created with good intentions. The goal of the app, they say, is to promote communication among people living in the same neighborhood and to encourage the development of local communities.
