Nationwide power outages caused by a technical malfunction occurred on Thursday morning, specifically a few minutes after 8:00 a.m.
According to the EAC, the outage was caused by a technical failure at Unit 1 of the Vasilikos power plant, following which the electrical system’s built-in protection and underfrequency systems were automatically activated to maintain the stability and smooth operation of the grid.
Areas across Cyprus were affected by the failure, experiencing a brief power outage that has now been resolved, with the exception of a single area in Protaras, which remains without power.
Crews are addressing the issue with the goal of restoring power to the affected area as quickly as possible.
