The Office of the Commissioner for Gender Equality held today the second meeting and discussion in the series “Dialogues on Gender Equality,” with the participation of students and journalists. The series of discussions aims to create opportunities for meaningful dialogue, where young men and women have the opportunity to express their views and expectations, thereby contributing to the creation of a more equal society.

The second meeting, titled “Gender, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship,” focused on the equal participation and advancement of women in business, access to leadership positions, pay transparency, hiring and career advancement processes, as well as addressing sexism and harassment in the workplace.

Guest speakers included Ms. Maria Tsiakka, Chair of the Board of Directors of CYTA, and Ms. Marina Zevedaiou, Founder and Director of the Aspen Trust Group, who shared their personal experiences and insights on leadership, entrepreneurship, and professional development.

In welcoming the participants, the Commissioner for Gender Equality, Ms. Jozy Christodoulou, emphasized the importance of creating equal opportunities for women and men in the business and professional world. She noted the importance of adopting equality policies at all levels of an organization’s operations, which, she said, contribute to employee job satisfaction and productivity, as well as to profitability, the overall smooth functioning of organizations, and their positive image in society. In this context, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of transposing into Cypriot law the European Directives on pay transparency and on the balanced representation of women and men in leadership positions of listed companies.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of highlighting female role models in the business and professional spheres, which helps to encourage young people and promote women’s participation in positions of responsibility and leadership.

This was followed by an open and productive discussion involving the invited students and journalists, during which questions were raised, concerns, and suggestions regarding the promotion of equality in the business and workplace sectors.
