Protest condemning the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, will be held on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m. outside the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, by the Pan-Cyprian Peace Council together with other anti-war activist organizations.
The Christodoulides-Herzog meeting “poses a tremendous challenge, as Israel continues its genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, while escalating its military operations in Lebanon, Syria, and Iran,” the Council states in a press release.

As it notes, the risk of a regional war in the Middle East is more evident than ever. “At the very moment when the State of Israel continues to violate international law and the United Nations Charter, murdering civilians, women, and children, President Christodoulides provocatively chooses to involve Cyprus and its people in Israel’s war-mongering plans and military operations in the wider region,” it notes.
According to the Pan-Cyprian Peace Council, at a time when efforts are underway to resume substantive dialogue on the Cyprus issue, identifying Cyprus with the occupying power of Israel undermines efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue and jeopardizes the security and well-being of the Cypriot people.
