It is hereby announced that, on June 28, 2026, at 05:30, the National Emergency Operations Center (KSED) activated the National Search and Rescue Plan “NEARCHOS” to rescue a shipwrecked person in distress in the Zygio maritime area off Larnaca.

To carry out the search and rescue operation, high-speed vessels from the Port Authority and the Maritime Police, as well as the National Guard’s Underwater Demolition Unit, a helicopter from the Police Aviation Operations Unit, and an ambulance from the Ambulance Service.

The rescued man was pulled from the water in good condition by the Coast Guard and Maritime Police speedboat and transferred to an ambulance at the Zygi Fishing Harbor.
