In a statement, the British Bases Police reported that the investigation is ongoing and that they are not in a position, at this stage, to comment on the circumstances or the exact cause of the children’s deaths, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.

Preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle had a mechanical failure. According to the evidence currently under investigation, the children reportedly entered the car through a door that was unlocked due to a malfunction, but the doors subsequently locked, trapping them inside the vehicle.
At the same time, investigators are also examining witness accounts suggesting that the two children may have been startled by some incident and ran to hide inside the car, though this specific possibility has not been confirmed.
It is worth noting that, although the apartment complex where the tragedy occurred is located on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, so far the Cypriot authorities have not been involved in the investigation of the case, which is being conducted by the British Bases Police.
