Police authorities in Polis Chrysochous staged a dramatic operation yesterday afternoon involving members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (MMAD) and special negotiators, to enforce the compulsory hospitalization of a 31-year-old man facing serious health issues.
According to reports, relatives of the 31-year-old obtained a compulsory hospitalization order for his transfer to Athalassa Hospital. Yesterday afternoon, police officers went to his residence to enforce the order. However, the patient refused to be taken to the hospital and brandished a knife at the police officers and the other residents of the home.
Police negotiators were called to the scene and attempted to talk with him, but the 31-year-old remained “barricaded” inside the house. Eventually, an operation was launched to disarm him, involving members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (MMAD), who stormed the house and managed to take the knife from him.
The 31-year-old was placed in a patrol car and immediately transported to Athalassa Hospital.
