The police are investigating the causes of a traffic accident that occurred yesterday in the Paphos district, resulting in injuries to six people. A 66-year-old driver was arrested to facilitate the investigation.
The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. yesterday on a road in Argaka, where the 66-year-old was driving his car and, under circumstances that are under investigation, lost control of the vehicle and struck the six people, who were walking. The victims included a married couple, aged 42 and 37, and their two children, aged five and seven, as well as another married couple, aged 65 and 64.
The 66-year-old driver continued on his way and, about half a kilometer away, under circumstances that are under investigation, lost control of his vehicle and, after colliding with a concrete manhole, came to a stop.
Police officers arrived at the scene to investigate, while the six pedestrians were transported by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital, where the 65-year-old man, the 64-year-old woman, and the 37-year-old woman were kept under observation as a precaution. Their condition is not life-threatening.
The 66-year-old man was subjected to a preliminary breathalyzer test by police officers, which yielded a positive result. However, during the final breathalyzer test, he did not provide a sufficient sample.
As part of the police investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for the 66-year-old. He was arrested and taken into custody pursuant to the arrest warrant. The Chrysokhou City Police Station is continuing its investigation.
