Academic Andreas M. Kazamias passed away yesterday, Sunday, at the age of 99.
Kazamias was one of the most prominent figures in the fields of Pedagogy and Comparative Education and enjoyed a distinguished academic career.
Born in Kalopanagiotis, Cyprus, in 1927, Andreas Kazamias pursued a distinguished academic career in Greece, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He studied History and English Literature in England and subsequently Educational Sciences in the United States, and was awarded a Ph.D. from Harvard University, specializing in the History of Education and Comparative Pedagogy.
For decades, he was affiliated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his scholarly work focused, among other things, on Comparative Education, the relationship between education and the state, educational reform, the politics and ideology of education, and the role of education in the process of social and national development.
His studies and books served as points of reference for academics and researchers engaged in Comparative Pedagogy, educational policy, and the relationship between education, society, and democracy.
