An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the boating accident that occurred on August 15 in the Pernera area of Protaras, which resulted in critical injuries to a 7-year-old girl and a 48-year-old man, is being conducted by members of the Famagusta Police Directorate.
It should be noted that the police are investigating the case involving the injury of two people following a collision between a jet ski driven by a 17-year-old girl with an 18-year-old passenger and acouch-style inflatable, carrying a total of five people, at noon on Saturday in the Pernera area of Paralimni.
Police Spokesperson, Byron Vyronos, told CNA that the relevant legislation is relatively recent and that all aspects are being investigated—such as, for example, whether the 17-year-old who was driving the jet ski holdsa student driver’s license, as required by law. The circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated, as well as whether any criminal offenses have been committed, he added.
As he explained, the new legislation includes four types of licenses, as well as a professional license for owners of water sports equipment, while the criteria for Cypriots and tourists regarding the use of jet skis differ.
According to the Police Communications Branch, the condition of the 48-year-old manwho is being treated in the ICU at Nicosia General Hospital is critical, while the condition of the 7-year-old girl being treated at Makarios Hospital is stable and out of danger.
The 7-year-old was seriously injured in the collision, suffering a skull fracture, and was transported to Makarios Hospital. The 48-year-old man, who suffered multiple injuries to his pelvis and other parts of his body, was initially taken to Famagusta General Hospital and, yesterday, after his condition worsened, was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit.
