As part of the police’s efforts to combat poaching, members of the MMAD’s Poaching Suppression Unit conducted an operation today in an area of the Larnaca district.
During the operation, in an area where hunting is prohibited, a sound device mimicking the calls of wild birds was found in operation, as well as five trapping nets.
Seventeen wild birds were found trapped in the nets; they were alive and were released back into their natural habitat.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the site is managed by a 36-year-old man, who, when questioned, admitted to committing the offenses under investigation. The Kofinou Regional Police Station is continuing its investigation.
