The Paphos Police arrested two individuals, aged 29 and 18, yesterday, as part of an investigation into cases involving offenses related to obtaining goods under false pretenses, illegal interference, and the interception of electronic data, as well as other related offenses.
Specifically, as part of an investigation into three complaints filed with the Nicosia Cybercrime Unit, which concerned the use of bank cards without the cardholders’ authorization to make purchases through an online application, evidence emerged that the illegal transactions were carried out by two individuals in Paphos.
Following a coordinated operation carried out yesterday in Paphos during the scheduled delivery of goods that had been ordered in the same manner, members of the Intelligence Investigation and Assessment Service proceeded to arrest the two suspects on the spot for the offense of illegal possession of property.
During a subsequent search of their residence, four cell phones, two electronic devices, and fourteen bank cards belonging to other individuals were located and seized.
Further investigations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office andM., it was determined that the 29-year-old was residing illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and, as a result, was re-arrested for this specific offense.
The two arrested individuals are expected to appear today before the Nicosia District Court for the issuance of a detention order.
