The Forestry Department informs the public that, due to the large number of people heading to the forests for the Feast of the Assumption, the risk of forest fires breaking out and spreading tomorrow, Saturday, August 15, 2026, will be at the “RED ALERT” level.
This is a strong appeal to the public planning to visit forested areas to be particularly cautious, completely avoiding actions and activities that could potentially cause a fire, namely, avoid lighting fires, using power tools that produce sparks or flames, and discarding cigarette butts and lit matches. Lighting fires for cooking is permitted only in the designated barbecue areas of picnic sites.
It is emphasized that causing a fire, in accordance with the Forests Law and the Law on the Prevention and Extinction of Fires in Open Areas, constitutes a criminal offense subject to severe penalties.
Finally, if anyone notices smoke or a fire, they are urged to call 1407 (Forest Department) or 112 (Fire Department) immediately.
