There was a strong police presence and activity last night throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order, and enhancing the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive police operations, nine individuals were arrested for various offenses, including robbery, illegal residence in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, refusal to provide a breath sample for an alcohol test, assaulting a police officer, malicious damage, as well as outstanding fine warrants.
As part of these operations, 680 drivers and 204 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 36 property inspections were carried out to address illegal activities, resulting in three complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 346 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 13 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation.
Of the citations issued, 185 were for speeding, and six vehicles were impounded as part of police investigations.
A total of 154 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in five citations, while preliminary drug tests yielded one positive result.
Law enforcement operations aimed at crime prevention and suppression continue daily, with an increased/reinforced police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing citizens’ sense of security, protecting citizens, and ensuring public order.
