The driver who struck two pedestrians in Paralimni and fled the scene has been located

He was taken to Athalassa Hospital

After conducting an investigation, the Famagusta Traffic Police identified the vehicle and the driver who allegedly struck two people, aged 28 and 29, in the early hours of Sunday, September 20, and then fled the scene. 

According to information from CNA, the vehicle belongs to a 19-year-old who, when approached by police officers, exhibited erratic behavior. 

The young man was examined by a psychiatrist, and a compulsory hospitalization order was issued for him at Athalassa Hospital. Once he is discharged, he is expected to be questioned, and all procedures for his criminal prosecution will be initiated.

It is recalled that the two individuals were walking back to their lodging after a night out at a nightclub in the Pernera area of Paralimni. 

Around 4 a.m., as they were walking along a dirt road on Vrysoudiou Street toward the Agia Triada roundabout, a car struck them. 

Immediately after the collision, the driver of the vehicle sped away and fled the scene.

An ambulance was called to the scene and transported the injured to Famagusta General Hospital. 

The 28-year-old woman received first aid and was discharged. 

The 29-year-old man suffered a severe traumatic brain injury as well as multiple fractures and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at Famagusta General Hospital.

According to reports, the injured man is alert, has sustained multiple injuries to the head, spine, and shoulder, and remains under observation for further treatment. His condition is considered stable.
