Last Wednesday, September 2, 2026, a joint Search and Rescue (SAR) exercise between Cyprus and Greece, “SALAMIS-03/26,” took place.
According to an announcement by the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (KSED), the exercise took place within the Search and Rescue Area of Responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus. Participating in the exercise were the Greek Navy frigates “NIKIFOROS FOKAS” and “YDRA,” the “IOANNIDIS” patrol boat of the Naval Command and a helicopter from the 460th Search and Rescue Squadron of the National Guard Air Force Command, a helicopter from the Police Air Operations Unit, as well as paramedics from the “MEDEVAC” Special Team of the Ambulance Service.
This exercise, coordinated by the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Center in cooperation with the Hellenic Navy General Staff, is part of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Search and Rescue between Cyprus and Greece, the provisions of which apply to these specific exercises, with the aim of enhancing search and rescue services in the Eastern Mediterranean.
