The Larnaca District Local Government Organization (EOAL), as part of its broader strategy to modernize the water supply network and promote sustainable water resource management, proceeded on Monday, August 31, 2026, signed a contract with NEWCYTECH DISTRIBUTIONS LTD for the supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of a comprehensive smart water meter system.
According to an announcement by EOAL “the installation of the 700 water meters is expected to be completed in November 2026, followed by a seven-year period of operation and maintenance.”
As the organization states, the scope of the contract is the supply and installation of 700 smart water meters in mountainous areas of Larnaca, specifically in the municipal districts of Skarinos, Vavla, Laya, and Kato Lefkara, with the aim of improving efficiency in water resource management and enhancing the quality of service provided to consumers.

This is the second large-scale smart water meter installation project promoted by the Larnaca Water Authority and the first to be implemented island-wide in non-urban areas.
The smart water meters will record and transmit consumption data, enabling EOAL to monitor the water balance on a daily basis and promptly detect potential leaks in the network.
This is expected to enhance the efficient management of the network, limit losses, and reduce unaccounted-for water. At the same time, consumers will be able to monitor water consumption at their properties via an online platform, contributing to better awareness and management of their usage.
According to EOAL, the new contract is part of its broader plan to utilize modern technologies in water management.
The project is being implemented as part of the FRESHNESS initiative, under the INTERREG VI-A Greece – Cyprus 2021–2027 cooperation program, co-financed by the EU through the ERDF and national funds from Greece and Cyprus.
