The injury of a 10-year-old girl caused by a battery was the result of fan violence during the APOEL – AEL soccer match, when a fan threw a battery from the stands. Meanwhile, the police arrested two more individuals in connection with the incidents.
Specifically, before the start of the APOEL–AEL soccer match held yesterday afternoon at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, as APOEL fans were marching toward the stadium, a number of them stopped and began throwing objects at a group of AEL fans who were in the stadium’s northern parking lot. Police officers intervened immediately, and order was restored.
During security checks at the stadium entrance, one person was arrested after a flare was found in his possession.
In addition, two AEL fans were denied entry after they allegedly pushed and knocked down part of the metal security fence.
After the match ended, one person was arrested after witnesses testified that he threw a battery from the AEL stands toward the opposing fans’ stands, resulting in a 10-year-old girl who was accompanied by her father. The child was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where she received first aid and was discharged.
Also, a member of the riot police was attacked by a group of AEL fans, resulting in his injury. He was taken to Apollon Hospital, where he received first aid and was discharged.
