Regarding the damage caused to buildings and property as a result of the severe weather conditions that occurred on August 29, 2026, the Ministry of the Interior announces that crews from District Administrations across Cyprus have begun assessing the damage, prioritizing cases where the damage is more extensive and severe. So far, they have recorded 183 affected residences in 20 communities and three municipalities, primarily in the District of Nicosia, as well as damage to public infrastructure.
In order to expedite the completion of damage assessment and documentation by the District Administration teams, those affected are asked to submit the following information to their respective District Administration no later than Monday, September 7, 2026:

It is clarified that the Ministry of the Interior has assumed responsibility for processing claims related to residences, commercial properties, and vehicles.
The criteria and the amount of ex gratia financial assistance to be granted to those affected will be determined by a decision of the Council of Ministers.
