The Fire Department is on alert for both rain and fires, as a yellow warning from the Meteorological Service for severe thunderstorms is currently in effect.
Speaking on the “Alpha Summer” program, Fire Department Press Office Officer Koulla Mesaritou explained that due to the yellow alert currently in effect, the Fire Department is on high alert both for the possibility of severe weather and for the risk of wildfires. As Ms. Mesaritou notes, there have been instances in the past where fires broke out in one district while the Fire Department had to respond to flooding in another.

Regarding the events that mainly affected Nicosia on Monday afternoon, she notes that the Fire Department received 35 calls concerning Engomi, Makedonitissa, Strovolos, Lakatamia, and Agios Dometios.

He noted that the Fire Department evaluates incoming calls when they are numerous, based on the severity of the incident, and responds to all calls in order of priority.
He noted that on Monday, six crews worked on the reported incidents, supported by two crews from Support CY and crews from the Nicosia Emergency Operations Center.
From the studio of the “Alpha Summer” show, weather analyst Tasos Ierodiakonou explains that weather phenomena are expected on both Tuesday and Wednesday, primarily affecting mountainous areas as well as the interior.
He notes that there is a possibility of hail accompanying thunderstorms, both in the interior and in the occupied territories.
Humidity levels, as explained, are at acceptable levels, while the risk of wildfires is moderate, partly due to the recent rainfall.
In the coming days, temperatures are expected to rise.
