Teachers' organizations are planning a protest rally to voice their opposition to the Ministry of Education's plans regarding the appointment system in education, according to reliable information from KYPE.
According to the same sources, it appears that the meetings they held with the Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth, Athina Michaelidou, in recent days did not yield a positive outcome, as it appears—according to the organizations—that a large number of teachers are “being treated unfairly,” whether they are on the list of those to be appointed or on the list of those eligible for appointment.
The teachers’ organizations held a meeting on Thursday morning, according to KYPE sources.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has not yet sent an updated proposal, and it appears to be maintaining its position on abolishing the list of those to be appointed “without safeguarding teachers’ labor rights,” a move opposed by teachers’ organizations, according to sources.
Furthermore, according to information from KYPE, the teachers’ organizations’ request to amend the relevant legislation so that permanent teachers are exempt from potential dismissal due to redundancy was not accepted, a decision that has also caused strong discontent among POED, OELMEK, and OLTEK.
