The most chilling detail of the case, according to the evidence being examined, is the information that the perpetrator allegedly kept the victim’s cell phone after the murder, sending messages to his family and demanding a ransom that increased day by day.
For his part, Mr. Vyronos emphasized that “At this stage, we cannot go into further details or analyze the information provided by this individual. We are evaluating the statement. Our goal is to verify the information he has provided.” He also noted that the exact circumstances of the death will be determined following the required forensic examinations.
The police investigation is in full swing in order to piece together the full picture of the case, with the suspect being brought before the court for a detention order. Responding to a question about whether there were any accomplices, the Press Spokesperson stated that “at this stage, there does not appear to be anyone else involved,” and concluded that “The important thing is that the suspect has been identified, and we are now investigating a case of premeditated murder. He will be brought before the court, and all examinations and the investigative process will be completed.”
What the Police Are Investigating
Police in Larnaca are investigating a case of premeditated murder following the discovery of a man’s body in an open area in the Larnaca district. The body was found as part of an investigation into the abduction of a 22-year-old man.
Specifically, after evaluating information obtained during the investigation into the kidnapping of 22-year-old SHAHRUAR AHMED EMON from Bangladesh, police officers proceeded on the morning of Sunday, June 21, 2026, to arrest a 22-year-old man pursuant to a court warrant.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in the kidnapping as well as to the murder of the victim. He also directed investigators to a specific area in the Larnaca district, where the body of a man was found in an advanced state of decomposition. A knife was also found at the scene, which, according to the 22-year-old, was the murder weapon.
The scene was cordoned off for examination, and a medical examiner was called to the scene to perform an autopsy, along with members of the Criminal Investigation Department. During the examination, it was determined that the body bore wounds caused by a sharp object. Various personal belongings of the victim were also found at the scene, along with evidence indicating that the body belongs to the 22-year-old who had been reported missing.
The 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody and is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court today for a detention order to be issued.
The kidnapping of the 22-year-old was reported to the police around 1 a.m. on June 12, 2026, by a roommate of the victim. According to the report, the 22-year-old had left their home on the afternoon of June 11 to go to a factory, where he was scheduled to start work that day.
That same evening, the 22-year-old’s father, who lives abroad, received a call from an unknown person, as well as text messages, demanding that he pay a sum of money in exchange for his son’s release.
The Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department is continuing its investigation.
